well just one snail actually, but that didn't have the same ring to it. The only reason I'm posting this is because this tiny little snail, about the size of a 5p piece, has got little hairs growing out of it's shell - i don't recall ever seeing one like that before, can anyone shed any light??

I looked at your pic before I read your piece & "thought that snail has hairs - I didn't think snails had hairs" how strange, I wonder if it is some kind of bacterial growth.

It turns out this hairy snail is in fact - a Hairy Snail Shocked Crazy - Trichia hispida, which doesn't even get a mention in any of my books. A local wildlife expert spotted it on my website & kindly emailed me to ID it.
